Procedures for Becoming an Individual Member of the Uganda Association of Occupational Therapists (UAOT)
The Uganda Association of Occupational Therapists (UAOT) welcomes professionals dedicated to advancing occupational therapy in Uganda. Follow these steps to apply for individual membership:
1. Eligibility Check
Ensure you meet the requirements for membership:
- Be a qualified occupational therapist with a recognized certification.
- Hold valid registration or licensure with a relevant professional regulatory body (if applicable).
- Demonstrate a commitment to the values and objectives of UAOT.
2. Obtain Membership Application Form
Visit the UAOT website or contact the Secretariat at the UAOT office to obtain a membership application form. Alternatively, request the form via email or download it directly from available platforms.
3. Complete the Application Form
Fill out the form accurately and completely, providing the following:
- Full name, contact information, and address.
- Educational qualifications (attach copies of your academic transcripts or certificates).
- Year of qualification.
- Professional experience in occupational therapy.
- Current workplace or organization (if applicable).
4. Attach Required Documents
Include the following with your application:
- A copy of your occupational therapy degree/diploma certificate.
- Proof of registration or licensure with a professional body (if applicable).
- A passport-sized photograph (recent and clear).
- Any other document specified by UAOT.
5. Pay Membership Fees
Pay the required membership fee to the UAOT bank account or via other approved payment methods. Attach proof of payment (e.g., bank deposit slip or mobile money transaction receipt) to your application.
6. Submit Application
Deliver your completed application form and attachments to the UAOT Secretariat via:
- secretariat@uaot.org
Ensure all documents are submitted by the stated deadline (if applicable).
7. Application Review
The UAOT Membership Committee will review your application. You may be contacted for clarification or additional information.
8. Approval and Notification
Once approved, you will receive an official acceptance letter and membership certificate. If your application is unsuccessful, feedback will be provided with guidance for reapplication. If successful, you will be issued a certificate of membership with your registration number and photo attached.
9. Active Participation
As a member, participate in UAOT activities, including:
- Annual General Meetings (AGMs).
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events.
- Advocacy and networking initiatives.
10. Renew Membership Annually
Membership is renewed annually by paying the renewal fee and meeting participation requirements.
11. Registration fees
Local Occupational Therapists - Ugx 50,000
International Occupational Therapists - $50
Local Students - Ugx 30,000
12. Subscription fees
Renewal of Membership shall be done Annually at the beginning of the year
SLocal Occupational Therapists- Ugx 30,000
Local students - Ugx 10,000
International Occupational Therapists - $30

Important Note:
Every Occupational therapist who wishes to practice within Uganda is required to register with the Allied Health Professionals Council of the Ministry of Health in accordance with the Allied Health Professionals Act Cap. 268.
Renewal of practicing license is done annually. Late registration/renewal carries a penalty. For more info.
